ABBRS in your Classroom

OK, so you may know that "ABBRS" means "Abbreviations". In an age where emojis and abbrs are becoming common language, here are some fun abbrs and how you can creatively use them in your everyday teaching!



  • “BTT” = Back To Topic. Use if students are straying from their main idea.

  • “CYS” = Check Your Sources. Use for students who may not have cited correctly or if they are missing a source.

  • “HTH” = Hope This Helps. If you provide guidance to a student, end with this abbrev!

  • ICYMI = In Case You Missed It. If a student is absent or if they missed a lesson, use this!

  • “OT” = Off Topic. Use if students are straying from their main idea.

  • “TLDR” = Too Long, Didn’t Read. Use for run-on sentences or if students need to condense their writing.

  • “w00t” = Whoomp there it is; Hooray. Use if a students gets something correct, especially if they have tried multiple attempts.

  • “YMMD” = You Made My Day. If a student surprises you with a response, use this!
